Start off the New Year with new Hike Tours, opportunities to get involved with the City of SLO Parks and Recreation department, and learn about a day hiking checklist!

Many items can be classified into three typical bins: trash, recycling, and compost. But did you know there is a fourth category? One that doesn’t come with an at-home bin? This fourth category is hazardous waste.

Hazardous waste is waste that can cause a detrimental impact on health or the environment. Because of this, hazardous waste should not be disposed of in the trash or gutter. To help with the confusion on what is considered hazardous waste, we have compiled a list of items, their negative impact on the environment, and how to dispose of them.

Did you know that an estimated 5 TRILLION particles of microplastics pollute our oceans? Join us in learning about microplastics as part of our 2020 Creeks to Coast Cleanup Event! On August 18th, 2020 three speakers joined our virtual panel to discuss the importance of educating people and taking action on microplastics.

This Eco-Talk, previously referred to as Green Drinks, was in partnership with The Marine Mammal Center and Morro Bay National Estuary Program. Local experts discussed the importance of waterways, estuaries, wildlife and how waste affects all of these natural phenomena. This event was in conjunction with Creeks to Coast Cleanup to celebrate the end of this year's event!

April 22, 2020 marks the 50th anniversary of the first Earth Day. At that time, ECOSLO was loosely organizing in our community and we officially became your local environmental nonprofit nearly one year after the first Earth Day. Here are a roundup of ideas, tips, and activities from plant-based meals to DIY projects that you can partake in to celebrate and protect our Earth!

Starting April 9, 2021, all plastic resin code #6 prodcuts (polystyrene) will be banned from SLO County businesses and organizations. Find out about how polystyrene negatively impacts the environment, human health, and learn about some of the many sustainable alternatives!
