Integrated Waste Management Authority

IWMA provides recycling throughout San Luis Obispo (SLO) county. They provide information on waste reduction, recycling, household hazardous waste, composting, disposal options and other miscellaneous information related to integrated waste management.

Household Hazardous Waste

The IWMA operates five household hazardous waste drop off facilities in San Luis Obispo County where residents can bring household hazardous waste materials. The maximum amount you can drop off at one time for free is 15 gallons or 125 pounds. They accept all household hazardous waste except radioactive or explosive. In addition, the facilities are open to small businesses, but you must first call 1-800-400-0811.

First off, see what ECOSLO will accept for donations. If your system is a newer model and in good condition, we might be able to use it in our office.

Call2Recycle

Through their national program, Call2Recycle™, the Rechargeable Battery Recycling Corporation (RBRC) can help you recycle your used portable rechargeable batteries and old cell phones. Rechargeable batteries are commonly found in cordless power tools, cellular and cordless phones, laptop computers, camcorders, digital cameras, and remote control toys. They maintain a list of collection sites, searchable by zip code.

We all know about the mountains of cell phones that are going into the trash. But did you know you can send your cell phone to a recycler, postage paid and get a tax deduction? They will refurbish and reuse if possible, or recover the valuable metals if not, and dispose of remaining materials responsibly.
