Natural San Luis & SLO Stewards
Preserving San Luis Obispo's Natural Heritage
In partnership with the City of San Luis Obispo, ECOSLO's Natural San Luis Program teaches people about the importance of preserving and protecting San Luis Obispo's natural heritage. Program activities include nature hikes, maintaining hiking trails, tree plantings and habitat restoration, and other outdoor educational activities.
Nature Hikes
Docent and ranger led hikes are free and open to the public. Duration and pace vary with the group's ability. Hikers are asked to wear sturdy shoes and bring drinking water. Docent led nature hikes are held on Saturdays starting at 9:00 a.m. Ranger led hikes are on Sundays starting at 1:00 p.m. To find out about upcoming
hikes, please visit our Events Calendar. For more information about local hiking trails, click here.
Trail Work Parties
Trail work parties maintain hiking trails in public open space, prevent erosion, restore creek beds, and protect native habitat. Work parties take place on Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Volunteers are asked to wear long pants and sturdy shoes. Tools, water and snacks provided. To get your hands dirty at the next trail work party, please visit our Events Calendar.

Step Into Being a Docent
As the City of San Luis Obispo increases its greenbelt area our Docent program becomes more important. We are currently scheduling hikes that will help you step into being a docent. The mission of the Natural San Luis program is to foster and encourage awareness of the natural heritage of the San Luis Obispo region, to share knowledge of the relationship among living organisms, including humans and their environment, and to help support the activities of the City of San Luis Obispo's Natural Resource Protection Program.
