Support bike safety and access in SLO

ECOSLO is working with the San Luis Obispo Rotary Club and other organizations to help complete the "missing link" in the Rail Road Safety Trail. The Trail will provide bicyclists and pedestrians a safe route from Cal Poly to the Rail station and eventually past the city limits to Avila Beach via the Bob Jones Trail.

April 6, 2008

San Luis Obispo has a unique opportunity right now, for the first time ever, to create a safe and convenient community trail between Cal Poly and the Downtown.

The “missing link” is a 500-foot section of trail from Cal Poly’s border to Foothill Blvd. This critical connection is currently unfunded – too small to interest grant-giving agencies and too expensive for the City to fund by itself. We must raise $307,000 to complete the missing link in the Railroad Safety Bicycle and Pedestrian Trail. This Class I trail requires safety fencing because of its proximity to high-volume street and railroad traffic.

This project has many partners including the Land Conservancy, the SLO County Bicycle Coalition, the San Luis Obispo Chamber of Commerce, Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center, and many others. ECOSLO is proud to join this partnership. To help with the project, ECOSLO is helping spread the word about this wonderful opportunity, coordinating the tax-deductible donations made by individuals to the R.R. Safety Trail Fund and offering donors a free ECOSLO membership in thanks for their support.
