Coastal Cleanup 2005
List of beach sites in SLO County. Find a beach near you!
Coastal Cleanup is an international
event that is focused on cleaning up beaches, rivers, and streams around the
world. In California, Coastal Cleanup holds the distinction of drawing out the
most participation of any volunteer event over its twenty-year history. 2004 was a record-setting year, topping
previous world records for participation and pounds of trash. In San Luis Obispo County alone, 1,290
volunteers helped to collect 14,857 pounds of trash, not including 2,784 pounds
of recyclables.
If volunteers are the heart and soul of Coastal Cleanup Day, then sponsors are the backbone of the event. Lending strength and stability to the Coastal Cleanup Day program, sponsors provide the financial support and promotional exposure that has allowed Coastal Cleanup Day to grow and gain momentum throughout the state. Coastal Cleanup Day sponsors are more than simply “donors to the cause.” They are partners in our efforts to raise awareness and educate Californians about the need for clean and healthy ecosystems. They work beside us in our ongoing attempts to find a solution to marine pollution.
