Coastwalk Volunteers Needed

Coastwalk is working to complete the California Coastal Trail (CCT) - a continuous trail along the entire California Coastline. Volunteer and oversight CCT committees for each coastal county are currently being developed to help make this incredible dream.

Join your local San Luis Obispo CCT committee and help us create one of the most diverse trails in the world. This is a great opportunity to gain experience with a very dedicated non-profit organization, which has been advocating for coastal protection and access for over twenty years.

The roles and tasks of Committee members are listed below:

Discovery - Volunteers will find the location of trails, both existing and planned, and obtain maps of them when available. This process will help us identify gaps, problems, environmentally sensitive habitats, and connecting trails & access points. This information will help us plan CCT projects, such as trail maintenance and construction.

Outreach - is tied in with the discovery portion of the project in the beginning stages as we contact people in government and let them know about the Coastal Trail Project and ask them to provide us with information. As the project advances we will contact other organizations that might help us with advocacy, ultimately creating a broad coalition of project supporters.

Mapping - will involve volunteer and Coastwalk staff fieldwork. The information obtained during the discovery phase will be fed back through Coastwalk volunteers and staff to cartographers at the Coastal Commission for the production of the preferred CCT route.

Tasks might include - hiking the CCT to collect information, leading day hikes, setting up trail projects, contacting local organizations and governments, attending trail related meetings, recruiting more volunteers, and following current events related to the CCT.

Coastwalk can reimburse for travel expenses.
