Join the Earth Day Alliance and more than 50 community groups, environmental nonprofits, eco-friendly businesses and public agencies for the 18th Annual Earth Day Celebration in San Luis Obispo. This year's festivities will take place in Mission Plaza on Saturday, April 26 from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Admission to the Green Living Expo is free; visitors of all ages are invited and will find something of interest and value.

Cal Poly’s Environmental Council will return with its awarding winning, Kid’s Zone, an interactive Tour of the Environment focused on dos and don’ts of environmental care and protection. Exhibits will include the greener side of building goods, products for inside the home, outdoors, and personal health and wellbeing, energy sources, transportation and vehicles, and food choices. Community groups, political candidates and businesses will share their green messages. Plenty of information and free give-a-ways will be available. A Goodwill drop off trailer will be there to gather worn out treasures.
New to Earth Day will be a wine and beer garden from where visitors can hear the sound the Up in the Air Band, Aurora Denny harpist and Lily Diamond, a kirtan (devotional chant) artist. Final list of performances will be announced on April 15.

Arbor Day in SLO

This year the Earth Day Alliance has chosen to partner with the City of San Luis Obispo’s 25th annual Arbor Day by holding events back to back. On Saturday, April 26, the city of San Luis Obispo will celebrate its 25th Anniversary as a Tree City USA at Laguna Lake Park Commemorative Tree Grove from 9 AM to 12 PM. Trees will be planted, an art and prose contest will be showcased and the new Heritage Trees for the City will be announced.

As the last tree is planted the Green Living Expo will kick off in the Mission Plaza of San Luis Obispo.

For more info about Arbor Day: Keith Pellemeier, Urban Forest Supervisor 781-7022.
